Wandoo Farm Wines
The Region
At the beginning of the nineteenth century the viticulture industry in Western Australia was centered around the Swan Valley and the Upper and Central Great Southern Regions.
Recent recognition of wines from these regions at wine tasting and shows is becoming very evident. These regions will, in the not too distant future, regain their positions as the States premium wine growing districts.
We believe the area between the Darling Escarpment and the Albany Highway has the potential to produce interesting wines. The price of land, availability of good water and climatic conditions creates a good economic environment for the production of quality fruit.

The Vineyard
A feature of the vineyard today is that there are no CCA (Chrome, Creosote, Arsenic) treated trellis posts, fungicide sprays or insecticides used except common sulphur, making the vineyard semi-organic.
All grapes at Wandoo Farm are selectively hand-picked in the crisp cool early autumn air of late March or early April.
The original 3 ha of vines were established in 1997 with the
planting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Verdelho.
The initial vintages were made at Porongurup Winery near Mount
Barker. Since March 2003 all wines have been made at
Harris River Estate Winery near Collie.
In October 2000 an additional 5 ha of vineyard was planted to produce Marsanne, Viognier, Sangiovese, Zinfandel (Primitivo) and Tamminga.
Several rows were also planted in 2000 for experimental purposes. These include Canada Muscat, Fragolla Muscatella (Strawberry Muscat), Pinot Noir, Barbera, Merlot and the Malbec variety planted near Moodiarrup in 1926 by my German grandfather, Rudolph Schinzig.
